First Video of an iPhone 5 Booting Up

At this stage of the proceedings, Foxconn must be churning a triillion iPhone 5 units per second, getting ready for the September 12 launch. Nor surprisingly, it seems someone managed to smuggle one out of a factory in Jincheng, China. Not just parts, but an entire unit.

The phone seems complete and booting. It stops just before showing the unlock screen with this error:
This device is not registered as part of the iPhone Developer Program. If you are a member of the program, please register your device in the @@url@@.
After all the leaks it seems highly unlikely that this is any kind of prank or fake—unless Apple has played the biggest deception operation since the Allies made the Nazis believe that Operation Overlord was happening in another place.

According to the person who got the iPhone 5 from the factory, it is indeed thinner and taller, just like the leaked parts showed. [VGOOO via MICgadget via TNW]

Anti-Virus Founder John McAfee Forcefully Arrested in Belize

John McAfee, founder of the deeply frustrating McAfee Antivirus, has become the target of a Belize Gang Suppression Unit. He's explained that the GSU raided his research facility, killed his dog, took his passport, handcuffed him and arrested him on a bogus weapons charge.

McAffe lives in Belize, and seems to be generous within its community. In 2009, for instance, he donated a $1.2 million boat to the Belize coastguard. But in a story that sounds like it belongs on a budget TV show, McAfee suspects he's a victim because he didn't donate money to a crooked politician. Belize news channel News 5 has a statement from McAfee:

"On Monday at six o'clock, I was awakened by the sound of a bullhorn, a megaphone. I went outside and saw about thirty GSU in full uniform, full dressed, automatic weapons, storming through the property and drive way...

"They began, with sledge hammers, to break the doors of the buildings-none of them were locked, but they just went and broke them in any case... They confiscated my passport... handcuffed me and everyone and for fourteen hours outside in the sun, I sat handcuffed without food or water...

"They murdered my dog in cold blood... I was arrested on a bogus charge of having an illegal firearm... They confiscated my passport and claimed they didn't have it. The entire day was an incredible nightmare."

Turns out, McAfee's physical security isn't quite as strong as his digital counterpart. Understandably, McAfee is seeking legal advice. [News 5]

Call of Duty Black Ops 2 racks up record pre orders and generates record hype

Inquiring minds want to know: Are people tired of Call of Duty? If the insane Internet buzz surrounding this week’s announcement of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is anything to go by, no they’re decidedly not.

Activision Blizzard’s near-future war game about America’s combat drones turning against their makers is already lighting up sales charts, according to Amazon.com’s United Kingdom branch. Three times as many copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 were pre-ordered through the online retailer during the first 24 hours after its announcement than the original Call of Duty: Black Ops racked up in 2010.

Laying on the canned PR speak a little thick, Amazon UK video game manager Graham Chambers said, “Set to be one of the biggest games of the year, it’s great to see so much enthusiasm and anticipation for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Bolder and better than before and with everything from a futuristic storyline through to single player mode, zombies, and multiplayer, Black Ops 2 promises something Call of Duty fans have never seen before.” Translated into English, Chambers said, “We are going to sell many copies of this gun game and we will buy fancy meals with the profits.”

The Web coughed up evidence of people’s enduring infatuation with the series throughout the week. Nielsen Media Incite, a research group that tracks interest in brands across social networks like Twitter, Facebook, and from 160 million blogs and message boards, told GamesIndustry International on Thursday that the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 announcement has generated the second most pre-release buzz of any Call of Duty product.

On Monday, 24 hours before the game was announced, Black Ops 2 generated 4,911 messages around the Web. By Wednesday morning, that number had jumped to 21,454 messages. It has actually generated the most buzz by NM Incite’s calculations of any Call of Duty game. Call of Duty Elite, Activision’s online service, generated more messages following its announcement in May 2011, clocking 21,728 messages in 24 hours.

One other interesting note from NM Incite’s research: The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 are generating close to the same amount of interest. While popular on all platforms, Call of Duty often commands a larger audience on Microsoft’s machine. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for example has sold nearly 14 million copies on the Xbox 360 since November 2011, while the PlayStation 3 version has sold just over 11.6 million.

Buzz doesn’t necessarily equate to success though. Look at Draw Something‘s dramatic rise and fall over the past six weeks. Then again, it would be foolish to think that Black Ops 2 isn’t going to sell in crazy numbers this fall. Face it: Call of Duty is the Super Bowl of video games. Might as well enjoy it along with everyone else.

Google going forward with the GO Programming language

Infoworld - Google today announced version 1 of its Go language, or Go 1 for short.

Downloadable at the Go website, the open source Go language has been positioned as a general-purpose language suitable for uses ranging from application development to systems programming and offering such features as garbage collection and concurrency. It also is intended to be easy to program.

[ Google's other language efforts include Dart, which has been viewed as a so-called JavaScript killer. | A recent survey on the popularity of programming languages, however, found rough going for both Go and Dart. | Subscribe to InfoWorld's Developer World newsletter for more on software development. ]

Go 1 is the first release supporting binary distributions, which are available in Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, and Windows. The language also integrates with Google's App Engine cloud platform.

"The driving motivation for Go 1 is stability for its users. People who write Go 1 programs can be confident that those programs will continue to compile and run without change, in many environments, on a time scale of years. Similarly, authors who write books about Go 1 can be sure that their examples and explanations will be helpful to readers today and into the future," according to a post from Go team member Andrew Gerrand on the Go language blog.

Google also is striving for forward compatibility; version 1 is a representation of Go as it is used today and is not a major redesign, Gerrand said. But it does introduce changes such as new types for Unicode characters and errors. The package hierarchy has been rearranged to group related items together.

"In its planning, we focused on cleaning up problems and inconsistencies and improving portability. There had long been many changes to Go that we had designed and prototyped but not released because they were backward-incompatible. Go 1 incorporates these changes, which provide significant improvements to the language and libraries but sometimes introduce incompatibilities for old programs. Fortunately, the go fix tool can automate much of the work needed to bring programs up to the Go 1 standard," Gerrand said.

The Go tool suite is being structured around the go command, which is a program for fetching, building, installing, and maintaining Go code. This command eliminates the need for Makefiles to write Go code. Go 1 also triggers a new release of Google App Engine SDK.

In envisioning Go, Google has sought to address what it sees as a need for faster software development and accommodating multicore chips. Go is intended to enable compiling of large programs in a few seconds on a single computer and provide a model for software construction making dependency analysis easy.

Rumor: Google Nexus tablet a ‘done deal’, could cost as little as $149

There's been talk for a while now of Google bringing out its own tablet, with a new report suggesting it could cost as little as $149.

On the day Apple’s new iPad launched to much fanfare and excitement, more details have emerged regarding the possibility of a Google tablet.
Android and Me reports that according to “a senior employee at a supply chain company based in the United States,” a new 7-inch tablet could be launched as early as May and cost as little as $149. That would put it up against Amazon’s Kindle Fire device, currently priced at $199.
The report also repeats an earlier assertion that Google will work with Asus to produce the “Nexus tablet.” The source told Android and Me that the Asus MeMo 370T, which was unveiled at CES in January, was scrapped after Google made an approach to the company about producing a tablet of its own. The source called the arrangement between the two companies “a done deal.”
The target price for the rumored Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) tablet has dropped too, with earlier reports suggesting the Mountain View company was looking at a price tag of between $199 and $249. The source said that has now been cut to between just $149 and $199.
At that price, we’ll have to expect something pretty basic, though in an interview with an Italian newspaper late last year, Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt promised a tablet of “the highest quality.” He also said that the device “would be guaranteed to increase the brutal competition between Apple and Google Android,” though at that price — and with a 7-inch screen — it’ll be Amazon looking over its shoulder, not Apple.
Google has been able to arrive at the super-low price by abandoning earlier plans to use a quad-core Tegra 3 processor in its tablet, Android and Me says in its report. It also says that it expects the tablet to be unveiled at the three-day CTIA Wireless show in New Orleans which kicks off May 8.

iPad 3 To Launch In 3 Or 4 Months, DigiTimes Reports!

We’ve been hearing a lot of rumors about the iPad 3 recently. Just a couple of days ago, a rumor suggested an iPad 3 launch in February and that it will indeed support double the resolution of the current screen. We also heard that the next gen iPad will be thicker and will support smart cover as well.
Digitimes brought us yet another iPad 3 rumor today claiming that the device will see day light in the next 3 or 4 months. DigiTimes claims that Apple’s suppliers are slowing the iPad 2 production and directing their undivided attention to the new device.
OEM production of iPad 2 will remain high at 14-15 million units in the fourth quarter of 2011 but decline to 4-5 million units in the first quarter of 2012, paving the way for the launch of the new iPads, the sources noted.
The 4 or 5 months release date is quite possible if we follow Apple’s calendar.
As you know, the new device is expected to support Dual LED light bars spiking the screen’s resolution by this to double that of the iPad 2. This enhancement will push the company to increase the price to cover that of the new Retina Display. We are also expecting an increase in horsepower and a new industrial design.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 makes $1 billion in 16 days

The game developer announced today that Modern Warfare 3 generated $1 billion in worldwide sales in its first 16 days on store shelves. By comparison, the 2009 blockbuster film "Avatar" reached the $1 billion milestone 17 days after it opened.
Modern Warfare 3, which launched last month, has become the third Call of Duty game in as many years to reach $1 billion in total sales. However, Modern Warfare 2, which launched in 2009, took two months to hit $1 billion in worldwide revenue. Last year's Call of Duty: Black Opsneeded 60 days to reach the milestone.
"Call of Duty is now amongst that rarified group of sustained franchises like 'Star Wars,' 'Harry Potter,' 'Lord of the Rings' and the National Football League that attract or engage tens of millions of people every year or every new release," Activision wrote in a statement today announcing Modern Warfare 3 sales.

Modern Warfare 3's success continues to defy critics who say that the time has come for the franchise to try out some fresh ideas, rather than stick to the typical run-and-gun experience that made it so popular initially.

"Modern Warfare 3 iterates rather than innovates, so the fun you have is familiar," he wrote. "Fortunately, it's also utterly engrossing and immensely satisfying, giving fans another reason to rejoice in this busy shooter season.""This is an exciting and rewarding game, but the series' signature thrills have lost some of their luster," Chris Watters, a reviewer at CNET sister site GameSpot wrote in his evaluation of the game. However, he couldn't deny the game's ability to deliver some of the more entertaining moments in gaming this year.
Modern Warfare 3's latest sales feat comes just a month after Activision announced thatModern Warfare 3 made $400 million in its first 24 hours of availability. Launch day unit sales in the U.S. and U.K. hit a combined 6.5 million units.

Steve Jobs Speaks About Death

The whole world talks about Steve Jobs. There and there! Prominent figures in the technology sector, including Obama, are now leaving comments on the death of Steve Jobs has happened several hours earlier. Everyone wants to express their admiration for the leader. Really you rest in peace, Steve!

This speech of Steve Jobs Stansford University in 2005 where he speaks of death:

Steve Jobs has got all: fame, power, money, but he did not get the most important, health. I do not know what status should I write hours of Steve Jobs, but I'm totally sad, even after seeing the video above.
Steve, really think differently and have changed the world. You are inspiring.

Following yesterday`s Apple`s event announcing the new inwardly revolutionized iPhone 4S with the twice as fast download rate compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 4, which is basically great news, but if you take a more thorough look, you will realize this powerful HSPA+ technology is only available from AT&T…..problem!!

If you are using the CDMA-based handset, being the iPhone 4S on both Verizon and Sprint, you`re left with the same 3G speeds you`re currently getting which could be great, but come`n, they`re not as fast as AT&T`s. Am major shortcoming to CDMA is that you`re not allowed to use data and voice simultaneously, meaning you can`t browse the web and make a call at the same time. So, if you want hit the speed road on the iPhone 4S, AT&T is definitely your choice.

Samsung Sells 10 Million Galaxy S II Units, Take Care Apple!

The war between Apple and Samsung is just beginning with Samsung’s huge sales of its new device, the Samsung Galaxy S II phone. Samsung today has announced that it has sold 10 million Galaxy S II smartphones worldwide in five months.

And remember, Samsung hasn’t sold (during this period) its phones in the U.S. since it has been recently available on Sprint, and coming on AT&T on October 2. T-Mobile will announce the release date soon.

By taking a look at Apple’s sales, Apple sells more than 20 million iPhones every three months so the 10 million phones of Galaxy S II in five months close to the amount of iPhones sold in three months. That makes sense for a single Android phone model.

Apple should provide something very important in its next major device upgrade, the iPhone 5, so that people buy it. Most of current iPhone users use the iPhone 4; it’s really great for now and it can be compared to the Samsung Galaxy S II.

If Apple released both iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S, I think this will make iPhone sales increased by double. In case Apple didn’t release the iPhone 5 by October 4th, this may lead its end in the battle with Samsung.
